Page Rank – Your Blog Setup Best FriendsOct 8th, 2009 | By Peter Downs | Category: Adsense
If you are in the process of doing your blog setup you need to consider your best friends! Who is going to make you popular for headmaster Mr Google! And don’t think that because you have many friends that you will be the most popular. It’s who your friends are that counts.
Getting a top page rank with the likes of Google is often seen as make or break for many website owners. If you get on the first page of Google for any particular keyword or phrase then the traffic will come. But what really determines page rank?
The main thing that helps determine how high you come in search engines is the quality of your best friends from other websites. When you receive a link back to your site from another site that is called an ‘inbound’ link. Google don’t care too much about ‘outbound’ links and neither should you, apart from those going back to your good friends that is!
When I refer to ‘quality’ of your best friends I mean those inbound links from sites that have high page rank themselves. This is critical in your blog setup planning.
Think of page rank like a school popularity contest. When I went to school I didn’t have many friends but the friends I had all were good at sport and liked music. They were very cool friends. My brother on the other hand had many more friends than me.
But he was a computer nerd and didn’t hang out with the girls. He hanged out with other nerds while I was away on sports camps and going to gigs with my cool buddies. No matter what my brother did I was always cooler and more popular simply because I hung out with other popular kids. Actually, the reverse is true but that’s another story!
So if you want to be popular in the eyes of Google find out who is already popular in your niche and hang out with them. This is not difficult as all you need to do is search using your targeted keywords and see what results you get. If there is a way to comment or contribute to popular sites then do so with quality content.
One day they may give you an inbound link that will be worth its weight in gold and certainly a lot more than many inbound links from low ranking sites.
In planning your blog setup then start immediately to build relationships with sites with high page ranks. You’ll soon be just as cool as them!
